2005 Relief Program

U.S. Hurricane Katrina Relief
No one at WMI ever expected to be providing relief to people in the United States. Since 1998, we have worked solely in developing countries. But as the disaster unfolded and the magnitude of destruction became clear, we knew we had to help. The only question was, how?
Destruction in Mississippi

A Living WaterT Treatment System/Reverse Osmosis Unit		We shipped 12 LWTST units and 8 LWTST/Reverse Osmosis Units (LWTSRO) to Mississippi and Louisiana. The LWTSRO units are trailer-mounted systems that were designed specifically for this disaster. We anticipate using them in the future when the next major catastrophe strikes the U.S.
We also launched a well rehabilitation program in rural Mississippi. Volunteers from WMI, Charleston Commissioners of Public Works, and Mt. Pleasant Waterworks are restoring water to hundreds of families whose homes and lives were devastated.

South Asia Tsunami Relief

undertook the largest relief operation in its history after the South Asia tsunami, which struck off the coast of Indonesia on December 26, 2004.

A total of 108 Living Water™ Treatment Systems (LWTS™) were shipped to the area, primarily to Sri Lanka and Indonesia. These systems have the ability to provide safe water for over 300,000 people, and they are being transitioned into sustainable community development projects in rural areas, many of which lacked safe water even before the tsunami.

Guatemala
In the wake of Hurricane Stan, WMI partnered with Samaritan's Purse to install a Living Water™ Treatment System (LWTS™) in Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala. Santiago Atitlan became a temporary home for at least 3,000 people from villages destroyed by flooding and mudslides.
Water purified by an LWTST is stored in the tank in the background, then distributed through pipes and faucets.
