Your Help is Needed
Today!
Updated October 14, 2008
It's been a month and a half since the last major storm ripped through Haiti. Yet, the destruction and devastation still loom throughout the country. Although aid continues to trickle in, the Haitian people are still desperate for help, and safe, clean water is among their greatest needs. With your continued prayers and support, Water Missions International is providing hope.
To date, 10 Living WaterT Treatment Systems have been successfully installed and are purifying drinking water for families in the towns of Bercy, Hinche, Jacmel, Cabaret, L'Estere, Ballange, Pasaran, Gonaives, Cazale, and Saint Marc. Each system is providing enough water for the daily needs of the families in these communities.
In Hinche, home to 30,000 people, thirsty survivors lined the street for more than 100 yards to collect safe drinking water from the water system. "Thank you. We've been waiting for help to come," said a young Haitian woman waiting to collect water with her two sons. "I now have water to give my sons and my family. Thank you. Thank you."
Water Missions International has 11 more water systems on the ground in Haiti. Staff and volunteers are working to determine locations for those systems, and installations should continue throughout the week.
Together, these 21 water systems are capable of supplying safe water for up to 105,000 storm victims in Haiti.
